Personal Care Home
Christ Lutheran Church opened Luther Home Personal Care Home on December 1, 1969 .
Luther Home is an eighty bed not for profit Personal Care Home originally designed to serve aging seniors in Winnipeg. Soon after its inception the Board of Directors identified a community need for placement of younger people/persons with disabilities. This resulted in approximately one third of Luther Home's current residents to be under the age of 65.
Location
Luther Home is located at 1081 Andrews St. in West Kildonan, nestled between Leila Avenue and Partridge Avenue. The Garden City Shopping Center is a three-minute drive to the west. Kildonan Park is a three-minute drive to the north east.
Accommodations
The Home is a single story building and can accommodate 80 residents. We have 64 single rooms, 4 doubles and two quadruples. In many cases, residents are initially admitted into a shared room. Residents can request to be transferred to a single room. However, there are many factors taken into consideration when allocating resident rooms. Every effort is made to accommodate the wishes of individual residents, keeping in mind the best interests of all of the residents.
Levels of Care
Residents of the Home are individuals who can no longer live independently. They require nursing and other professional interventions on a daily basis to maintain their best level of function. Under the provincial level of care designation system, our residents would be considered levels 2, 3 and 4. These residents have health problems for which they require help with activities of daily living.
